Piaget was a major theorist in play. He saw play as the the means by which the child's learning comes together and helps the child to make sense of the world. He identified the following stages in play development: Sensory motor play- (birth to 18 months) using senses and movement Symbolic play- (18 months to 5 years) -where one thing stands for another Cooperative play (5-8 years)- using games with rules. There are several written by different authors, do a search at your nearest university library.
