do premature babies hit milestones same time as full term ones?

i mean like do they sit up and play etc at the same time as full term babies?
my friend had a baby at 30 weeks, weighed 2lbs 15oz, she nearly 6 months old and weighs only 11lbs, will she be a little behind?

My two kids were born prematurely: my son was 3 lb 8 oz 19 " when he was born in 34th week and after 16 years he is 157 lb and 6′1"; my daughter was 6 lb and 19" in her 37th week, but she is only 8 months old so can’t tell in long run. Both of them developed normally, just their weight was behind norm. My son have not speak (or made any sounds – we thought he was mute) until he was 2.5 y.o. and my daughter seems normal for her age. As a rule – they may be slightly behind with some stuff but will catch up. Unless there are some serious medical problems when she was born, your friend’s girl should be as normal as other kids in few years. As a bonus: some preemies can do stuff earlier than other kids because they do not have too much fatty tissue to hold them back! I know at least 5 other preemies that started doing things earlier because they were not restricted by "baby fat". So good luck to your friend and don’t worry in advance

My son was born at 34 weeks and is 6 months old now. So far, he has hit all his milestones at the same time as regular babies his age. He weighs about 18 lbs now which is a good weight.

They will accomplish things at the same time, but you have to use their adjusted age. The adjusted age is taken from when the baby was supposed to be born. So for your friend’s baby, she will be about 10 weeks behind, since she was born 10 weeks early. Eventually they will be caught up, but for the first little bit, they will be behind.

my sister in law had a preemie 8 years ago and they told her that he would probably hit milestones 4 months later than most his age. he was born at 6 months.

You can expect her to be about 2 months behind. She will reach the typical milestones at the normal age past what her delivery date was supposed to be.
