Pick a person who a been through a terrible ordeal, someone that all the kids know like a sport person (as a young person). Get the class to talk about how they think she would have coped with it. Then ask that person(the sports person) to come in and talk about it relating their resilience to genes and the environment. There was a young girl on sixty minutes who was assaulted and set on fire in her parents home. I don't think your class would find the story horrific because of the resilience she has shown. You could maybe ask sixty minutes for this tape, because she came through this absolutely amazing. She may come and speak to your class.
